OBSESSING

OBSESSING

Ok. So – I’m not usually a gusher over individual products. So you know if I’m telling you about a product, I’ve got to LOVE it. I’m hoping to do one of these recommendations a month but since I’m picky some months there very well might not be one to recommend – I’m going to try for you though!!

So for this month, I have a new love to blab about:

MAYBELLINE SUPERSTAY MATTE INK LIQUID LIPSTICK

I tried it in “Romantic”, a fun, bright pink hue, while getting ready for work and the color stayed until I woke up for work the next day and had to gently rub it off using  lip balm and a wash cloth!

A longwear lipstick that actually stays put??

Yes, miracles do happen.

As billed by Maybelline, the Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick (SMILL) gives “a flawless matte finish in a range of super saturated shades.” They claim up to 16 hours of staying power; as I said, mine stayed on for 24, though by morning it was definitely duller than when I first applied it and I would not necessarily have gone out with it on in that state (besides the fact that’s just kind of nasty).

According to Maybelline, SMILL “features a unique arrow applicator for precise application.” It does in fact have a different applicator then I’m used to – the curved edges made it easier to follow my lip line, and that was necessary to smooth out the syrupy formula that comes out of the tube.

Never fear though: SMILL dries light and bright – no heavy feeling *at all* like some other products I’ve tried. It was ever so slightly tacky throughout the day, but I didn’t mind and only really noticed when I pursed my lips together. I think that tackiness is part of the reason it doesn’t look like chalk the way some other matte formulas tend to.

Here you can see what it looked like at the 6 and 12 hour marks (silly me forgot to take one when I first applied that day, but I added a shot from a different day so you can get an idea):

 1:00 pm ish...

I applied it in two thin layers and probably could have applied it a bit heavier toward the center of my mouth. As you can see, it wore off a bit unevenly and I think a heavier application might have helped.

And, in case you’re wondering, I really did put it to the test. I let it dry fully as I got dressed but immediately after I drank a glass of water; about an hour later I guzzled a full mug of coffee; it stood up to my blueberry breakfast and my sad desk salad lunch; it survived pork chops off the bone at dinner and some wine; not to mention napkins…. I’m not sure how it would handle a messy sandwich or something you’re really biting into but for day to day I think that’s all pretty great. I’m thinking about getting it in another shade, Pioneer -  a deep red , for the holidays since I always feel like they are a marathon my makeup never seems to survive. For under $10 MSRP, this is definitely one product I will be recommending and rebuying!

Have you tried SMILL? Do you have a long wear lipstick you rely on and would recommend?
